Spiritual Physics 3 – Newton’s Second Law of Motion (F=ma) Part 1
Hebrews 12:1 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Philippians 1:6 – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Daniel had previously shared about spiritual physics. When we were created, God intended for us to be together with Him and have eternal fellowship with him. God intended for us to have and experience love, grace, life, and heaven. But humans decided to leave God.
To quickly summarize Pastor Daniel’s previous messages on spiritual physics:
Newton’s First Law of Motion – Spiritual Physics 1: Law of Inertia. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion, without external forces, will remain in motion forever. Once we had left and turned away from God, without any intervention, we were destined for hell, to be eternally separated from God.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion – Spiritual Physics 2: Law of Action and Reaction. When two bodies interact, they apply a force to one another that is of opposite and equal magnitude to each other. We may have experienced in our spiritual lives that while we desire to live a godly life, we will often encounter a spiritual reaction that prevents us from reaching God. This may be through the work of Satan, spiritual powers, or our own sinful nature. We will sometimes experience hardship and be discouraged when we try to do good.
This week’s message is about applying Newton’s Second Law, F=m*a. We can rearrange the equation to Fm=a
Where F = momentum to bring change or growth, m = our spiritual weight, and a = speed of actual change or growth.
Why do we not experience change or growth in our Christian life? When we look at the equation above Fm=a, assuming that F is a constant number, how can we see positive changes in a, the speed of actual change or growth? We do so by changing the m, our spiritual weight. Someone who is spiritually light will experience more change, while someone who is spiritually heavy will remain stagnant.
What is spiritual weight and how do we change our spiritual weight to experience change in our lives?
Hebrews 12:1 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
The author of Hebrews makes a point that we should lay aside weights in our lives that weigh us down. What makes us heavy and what weights do we carry?
We need to lose 3 things:
Our sin. Pastor Daniel had shared in the past how our sin can drive us away from God. The more we realize the righteousness of God through the life of Jesus Christ, the more we see our own imperfections through our sinful life and nature. Naturally, we should lay aside things that separate us from God.
Our anxieties and worries about our future. We often have worries and anxieties about our future. This is not to say that we should forfeit our future, but we can still make our lives productive while giving control of our future to our Heavenly Father.
Our past. Finally, many of us are still controlled by our past. The Bible says that everyone in Christ is a new creation, but we often live carrying the burdens of our past with us. Being stuck in our past can hinder our ability to experience meaningful changes now and for the future.
We don’t grow or transform due to our spiritual weight. When we understand why, we can endure and be patient in finding the how. Without the why, we cannot find the answer to how. We are spiritually heavy. When we think that we are stagnant in our spiritual lives and are not experiencing change or growth, we should reflect on whether we have become spiritually heavy again. As it is stated in the Bible, while we may have been spiritually light in the past, we must lay aside every weight that weighs us down, especially our sin which can cling to us so closely.
Reflection Questions:
What were your takeaways from this week’s message?
Have you been experiencing a stagnant spiritual life? If so, what do you think has been weighing you down spiritually?
