The Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Faithfulness

Testimony by Jason Kim (China HC)

Galatians 5:22-23, Galatians 2:16, Romans 1:17, Psalm 119:30, Lamentations 3:22-23, Matthew 25:14-30, 1 Corinthians 11:1

Faithfulness, as listed in Galatians 5:22–23, is often casually mentioned but rarely deeply understood. Jason shared his personal journey of exploring the true biblical meaning of faithfulness, revealing it as steadfastness, loyalty, reliability, and trustworthiness. These were qualities exemplified by God.

Initially, Jason felt uncertain about what faithfulness truly meant. Through studying Scripture, he discovered the Hebrew words emunah (steadfastness, trustworthiness) and chesed (loving commitment) from the Old Testament and the Greek word pistis from the New Testament, meaning trust, loyalty, and reliability. Paul's writings, such as Galatians 2:16 and Romans 1:17, emphasize faithfulness not as mere obedience but as trust and loyalty to Christ.

Psalm 119:30, "I have chosen the way of faithfulness," emphasizes that faithfulness means setting one's heart unwaveringly on God. Similarly, Lamentations 3:22–23 illustrates God's faithfulness through steadfast love and mercy. Faithfulness reflects God's own character.

To practically apply faithfulness, Jason examined the parable in Matthew 25:14–30, noting God's expectation for us to be faithful with small tasks as proof of trustworthiness. Reflecting personally, he realized the importance of being faithful in everyday matters like punctuality and integrity in his daily routines.

Motivated by Christ's ultimate faithfulness—His sacrifice on the cross—Jason emphasized our responsibility to imitate Christ's example. He shared how his faithfulness has grown by following examples from spiritual leaders in his life, such as Danny and Pastor Daniel. Both set examples in their discipline in prayer, bible reading, memory verse memorization, faithful shepherding, etc. Ultimately, Jason encouraged the congregation to reflect on their own faithfulness, starting with small acts of obedience and imitating godly examples. His testimony underscored that faithfulness, deeply rooted in gratitude for Christ's sacrifice, grows through daily decisions, humble imitation, and steadfast commitment to God.
